Bear Island is located immediately adjacent to Swansboro from Hammock's Beach State Park.  A 3 mile unspoiled barrier island that is accessible by passenger ferry, boat, or canoes.  There are spaces available for camping or white sand beaches to walk for shells, gulls, or a spot in the sun.  The history of Bear Island speaks of Blackbeard visits and who knows, maybe even buried treasure.  A magnificent place to spend the day.  A beautiful community to spend a lifetime.  Visit Hammocks Beach State Park for more information and to view the history of the area.  Approximately 3 miles from Hwy 24 down Hammocks Beach Road and a short drive from Halls Creek North.
